We founded AppOrchard in March of 2011, with the goal of making life easier for enterprise iOS developers and Fortune 1000 companies. With our approach, they can create high quality enterprise iOS applications in a sustainable manner. Our core management team is comprised of former NeXT and Apple engineers. We have first hand experience with all the problems associated with supporting multiple SDKs and hardware configurations. Ultimately, the AppOrchard approach and our proprietary build systems reduce the complexity of maintaining iOS applications for our clients companies. Who we are
In his 25 years of experience as an entrepreneur, manager, public official, investment banker, and venture capital investor, Art has helped create and restart over 30 private and public sector organizations in a broad range of industries, including technology, e-commerce, media, architecture, real estate, law, government, and finance. He is also the founder and CEO of Tipping Point Partners, a technology incubator that uses innovative approaches to design, create, and operate new technologies for large organizations.
Alex has had two decades of experience developing enterprise applications and leading product teams. Alex began his career as an Associate at Salford Systems in San Diego, California. There he worked on data mining and delivering choice modeling software and consultation services to clients that included Italia Telecom, Mercer Consulting, AT&T Universal Card Services, Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, General Motors, Sears, Roebuck and Co. Moving forward in his career, he joined NeXT Computer in 1995 as a software engineer in Redwood City. After the Apple acquisition, Alex moved east with his family to manage Apple’s Boston iServices group. In Boston he led teams for projects at Bank Boston, Fleet Bank, Aetna USHC, Merrill Lynch, The Walt Disney Company, AIG, American Express, and Fidelity. In 2006 Alex became the cofounder and former CEO of Emergency Vault Data Solutions (acquired by K12, Inc. in 2008 ), an online secure storage facility for vital documents. Alex is the co-author of Programming .NET 3.5 (O'Reilly, 2008), which he wrote with bestselling author Jesse Liberty. Alex and Kevin Kim are co-authors of an upcoming Apress Book on iOS programming.
Kevin has had over 23 years of experience solving software development challenges. With a degree in Physics from Carnegie Mellon University, Kevin turned his attention to the difficult problems of finance, working for companies like Tudor Investments, BlackRock, Fund Development Services, and IFS (acquired by State Street). Kevin and Alex worked together at Apple where they were the first to institutionalize unit testing and pair programming for their customer projects. They continued this partnership in the co-founding of Emergency Vault Data Solutions which was ultimately acquired by K12, Inc.
The "V" in VNP Software, Van has been solving complex data management issues for the NeXT / Apple platforms since 1990. The co-author of DBKit, widely acknowledged to be the precursor to the Enterprise Object Framework that has since morphed into CoreData, Van has a deep and abiding interest in data management. Prior to joining AppOrchard, Van had spent the better part of the 1990's and 2000's working on large scale computation and data storage problems which surround structured finance products such as CMO, CDO, CLO, CPDO, and CPPI for leading Investment houses Invesco, Fortis, and BNP Paribas Investment Partners. Of particular interest to Van were the uses of derivatives in these structures and how one does cash flow modeling and pricing of them. In his role at AppOrchard, Van has returned to apply his passion for designing sustainable enterprise patterns for iOS development.
With more than 30 years as a software engineer, manager, and software architect to Fortune 100 companies such as Walt Disney, Apple, AT&T and Fidelity Investments, Juan provides innovative and creative solutions to customers. He is experienced with large-scale enterprise systems, and has done breakthrough work with networking architectures, distributed REST-based content management systems, and high-volume transactional systems for Aetna, NeXT and MIT Lincoln Laboratory. Currently he is integrating mobile applications with native application synchronization into enterprise systems. Juan has a BA in Computer Science from Boston University.
Travis has more than 14 years of experience delivering custom software for clients such as Verizon, Northrop Grumman, DoD and Apple. He has architected many successful, high profile software projects, most recently at K12, Inc. and The Brookeside Group. He is actively involved as a regular contributor to several open source projects and recognizes that successful software is an art as well as an engineering discipline.
Aliza came to App Orchard from Roebling Partners, a boutique valuations firm where she was responsible for industry research, sales, and marketing; creating educational programs and working closely with growth companies to ensure awareness of valuation issues most pertinent to their stage of maturity. She was employee #1 at Lightserve Corporation, leading sales and marketing initiatives for the company's virtual data room platform. Aliza began her career in wholesale fashion and e-commerce, most recently at Hermès, where she coordinated sales planning, marketing, and online merchandising for Hermes.com. Aliza holds a degree in english literature and creative writing from Columbia University. She is deeply engaged with the New York startup community and sits on the board of Girls in Tech.
