Work

We make premium enterprise apps, bring new life to legacy systems, and enable business for the mobile world.

AppOrchard believes the best apps drive efficiency, increase profitability and empower workers with real-time data.

We dig deep into your organization to understand your business model, your forecasts and your technology, delivering smart systems architecture for an exceptional end-user experience that supports lightning-fast download times, even over mobile connections that rely on legacy hardware and software. We translate business needs into actionable data for your workforce.

We do this better because our founding team contributed to Apple’s flagship products, going back to NeXTstep and WebObjects, straight through to OSX. They went on to develop deep domain experience in creating and progressing mobile systems across the finance, agriculture, retail, media, healthcare, education, transportation, and manufacturing industries before coming back together again at AppOrchard.

OUR PROCESS WORKS
At AppOrchard, we believe software, designed and used intelligently, can change industry and society for the better. When we work with you, we use our proven development processes and testing practices to create real, lasting value for your business goals.

Discovery:

To ensure everyone is on the same page on any new project, we come together to share ideas, aspirations, and assumptions at the start in a discovery session. There, we put everything on the table, and focus on concept development, risk mitigation, and stakeholder alignment. The result: a written evaluation and proposal that informs the action plan, highlighting key decisions, recommended solutions, and next steps.

Execution:

We believe in full transparency, trust and communication, working side-by-side with our client development teams from start to finish.

We practice agile development, combining Pair Programming, Test-Driven Development, and Continuous Integration, to deliver working, production-ready code at each sprint. That enables us to react to any changes in requirements, priority features, or new business needs in real-time. These methodologies reduce code overhauls and therefore time and money because of improved communication and decision-making, software quality, and risk management.

We also believe in testing each software layer throughout the development process. This includes unit tests for individual functions, user interface tests, integration testing, system testing, and user acceptance testing.

In the end, this all serves to ensure the highest quality product possible, because that is what we want you to have.

Maintenance:

We don't just build from scratch. Live products need to stay up-to-date with current technology innovation and must respond to users needs to stay relevant. We truly specialize in transforming legacy systems, maintaining apps through operating system changes, refactoring apps for better performance, and delivering new features and functionality.

About

Insiders. Innovators. Ideators.

Founded in 2011, AppOrchard is comprised of iOS insiders who are former Apple and NeXT software engineers. We are leaders with a track record of delivering business opportunities through technology. We have worked in every industry, at every scale, from top-secret defense projects to consumer-facing beauty apps. Meet our team.

Founder and CEO

A New York City tech startup veteran, Art has been a serial entrepreneur, investor and advisor to NYC tech startups including Case Commons, IGA Worldwide, Haystack Media, Mobile Commons, Rapid Ratings, and Fashion GPS. Art believes that great software, applied intelligently, can result in positive social and economic change, and uses that philosophy to guide his teams.

Co-founder, Developer Relations

After graduating Carnegie Mellon University, Kevin was first exposed to the NeXTStep computer (the ancestor of today's iPhone) while a programmer at the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center and has been hooked ever since. His career has spanned over 20 years developing systems in finance, government, biotech and technology, including Apple where he managed the Apple Enterprise Services team for the New York metro area. His latest book, More iOS 6 Development: Further Explorations of the iOS SDK, is currently available through Apress.

CFO

Stan is a Certified Public Accountant, and has led financial teams in high-growth companies for nearly 20 years. He has worked at Unified Growth Partners as the CFO, United Rentals as the Director of Finance, and at Deloitte and Touche as an Audit Manager. Within all of those roles, Stan's experience extends to industries as varied as healthcare, education, retail, manufacturing, and of course, internet startups.

Business Development

For more than 25 years Diana has crafted and led successful technology sales organizations. After early career success as a software sales representative in Silicon Valley, Diana came to NeXT Software, where she transformed the company’s sales model. As a result of Apple’s 1997 acquisition of NeXT Software, she then joined Apple Computer, where she managed strategic relationships with tier 1 global IT partners Cisco, IBM and Oracle, and led her whole team of account management, sales engineering and inside sales teams to drive millions in new revenue every year.

Software Developer

For the length of his career, Van has worked within financial markets, on both the buy and the sell side. In 1990, he founded VNP Software, Inc., an Objective-C software company that served the top global financial and investment corporations. He spent 2001 to 2010 working internally at several of those companies; first Invesco, then Fortis Investments, and finally at BNP Paribas. Always active in both the Objective-C and Java communities, Van has spoken at several conferences, including JavaOne, on the subject of advanced techniques for performing pricing and valuation computations in grid environments. His current work centers on accessing large-scale computation and data services via mobile platforms.

Software Developer

Travis has over 15 years of experience delivering custom software for clients such as Verizon, Northrop Grumman, DoD and Apple. He has architected many successful, high profile software projects, most recently at Apple and K12, Inc. where he built several business critical WebObjects applications and led a team of engineers, as well as at Brookeside Group where he built complex, customer-facing web apps. He is actively involved as a regular contributor to several open source projects and recognizes that successful software is an art as well as an engineering discipline.
